Prof. Joseph Klafter is the former President of Tel Aviv University (2009-2019). He served as the Chair of the Israel Science Foundation (ISF), the main institution supporting scientific research in Israel, from 2002 to 2009.
Widely recognized in his field, chemical physics, Professor Klafter has published close to 400 scientific articles, edited 18 books and is the co-author of a text book.
He is an honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a fellow of the American Physical Society. Among his recognitions are the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Prize, the Weizmann Prize for Sciences, the Rothschild Prize in Chemistry, the Israel Chemical Society Prize and the Israel Prize in Physics and Chemistry. He holds an honorary doctorate from Wroclaw University of Technology, Poland, an Honorary Professorship of Tsinghua University, China, and received the “Commander of the Order of the Star of Italy” distinction from the President of Italy.
